No Products in the Cart
Over 12 million car seats are thrown away in the U.S. every year. The vast majority are thrown in the trash at their end of life because they are hard to recycle .
Between recalls, car seats that were in car accidents, or are just past their prime, that’s about 180 million pounds of valuable material that ends up in the landfill. Year after year.
But it is not because they are hard to recycle that it cannot be done. We created a nationwide car seat recycling program that is both convenient and effective.
CAR SEATS HAVE RECALLS.
Just like cars and other products, a safety seat may be “recalled” because of a defect that could injure your child. Manufacturers are required to fix the problem free of charge. If your seat is recalled, be sure to get it fixed right away. The recalled car seats are currently landfilled.
ANY CAR SEAT INVOLVED IN A CRASH SHOULD BE REPLACED IMMEDIATELY.
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, as well as car seat manufacturers, recommend a car seat be replaced following a moderate or severe crash in order to ensure a continued high level of crash protection for the child. Car seats involved in a car accident are currently landfilled.
CAR SEATS TYPICALLY HAVE AN EXPIRATION DATE OF 6 YEARS.
Most car seats have the date of expiration stamped on the manufacturer label located on the sides or the base of the car seat. Alternatively, it might show the date of manufacture. Generally, a car seat will expire six years after the date of manufacture. Only a few seats may be good for longer than that. Very few consumers
We get it.
By the time your kids need to transition from a baby seat to a toddler or a booster seat, the car seats are old, coated with melted Crayola and crusted with kids’ food. It is time to say goodbye.
You have two options:
Pay to have it landfilled. Or order your recycling kit. The process is super easy, and ensures that the car seat’s plastic, metal and nylon are recycled.
